Ok friends, You’re almost out of time to reap the benefits of pre-ordering Victus #1. If I get your order before Sunday, June 16th, you can still get a free print of Celeste:
Thank you to everyone who has already pre-ordered! I’m humbled by your support. It went miles to helping me get the book finished and pay for the printing. The first round of orders have been shipping out this week, and I’m hoping most of you get them by Monday, June 17th at the latest.
If you’re a local Chicago person, or flying in for the show, CAKE will be the first chance for anyone anywhere to get their hands on the books. I’m very pleased with how they turned out and I can’t wait to share them with you!
I’ll leave you with these gems:
Jack Kirby. Showing his power in the earthly realm yet again.
Darrow and Moebius lighting it up with City on Fire.
I am completely in love with this Barry Windsor-Smith cover for X-men #186
Until next time, keep your ducks in a row. Well… geese.
I’m very excited to announce that the first issue of my next comic series, Victus, is now available for pre-order! Here is a description of the first issue:
In a timeless city, a young thief named Isaac struggles to connect with a beautiful girl. The bartering inhabitants are challenged by the public speeches of a great thinker, while a mysterious man constructs a machine powered by stolen religious relics.
Victus is a deus-scientia fiction comic that explores both the purity and corruption of human relationships. It features foot-chases, strange technology, exotic animals, and thought-provoking philosophy. Each book is presented as a precious object for readers to experience intimately and engage with emotionally.
Here’s what the book looks like:
My printer, Rink, has done an outstanding job on the books and I think you’ll love the final product. There are more images of the product and 6 preview pages available on my website:
As a bonus, I’m including a free 8.5×11″ print with all orders received before June 17th.
As an extra bonus, the first 10 pre-orders will receive original pages taken directly from my Victus sketchbooks. That’s right, I’ll just rip them out, sign them, and send em along with your spiffy copy of Victus.
All pre-orders will ship by June 17th. SO… What are you waiting for?!? GO…
LAYDEEZ DO COMICS
Although I am not a lady, I very much appreciate all ladies and I happen to do comics. I’ll be speaking as part of the Laydeez Do Comics series this Thursday, May 30th, at Quimby’s Comics. Please come down to hear me rant about my life as a comics artist. I guarantee that you’ll hear something new about me (for better or worse).
I’m honored to be participating in a group show called Modern Storytellers at Ugly Stepsister Gallery. The list of artists includes talented friends like Marnie Galloway, Ashley Elander, and many others. The show opens on June 14th, so more info will be coming soon. Hope you can make it!
Thanks everyone for all your support!
I’m am extremely happy to say that Gary: Book Three is now available for purchase via tyrellcannon.com:
This is the final book in the Gary series! I have been working with a new printer called Rink, and they did a fantastic job on this book. I couldn’t be happier with the result and I hope you all enjoy Book Three as well!
I had an awesome time at Comikaze this weekend! My fellow exhibitors were kind and the show felt very welcoming. My table was HUGE, and I had a hard time filling it up with product. But I tried:
I take comics VERY seriously
Thanks to everyone who stopped by my table and said hi or purchased a book! The only celebrity spotting for me this trip was Badger from (thebestshowonTV) Breaking Bad. He did not try to sell me meth.
I also hit some of my favorite LA food spots and try some new ones:
clockwise: Al pastor burrito- La Estrella; Animal fries- In N Out; Chicharones & Burger- Father’s Office
I will continue to post my process in creating Gary in the coming months, so please keep checking in. I will also have more information about my next (2) projects soon!
I’m happy to premiere Simon: The Collection 2001-2011 this weekend at Chicago Zinefest!
This volume of 166 pages collects the last 10 years of my Simon comics (sneak peek last week). Not only do you get a taste of the beginnings of Simon, but I’ve included some never before seen material as well! I’m also honored to have pin-ups from these talented folks:
John Wright II
my Zinefest table-mate Beth Hetland!
and that snazzy cover is a collaboration with the great Gerald Proctor III, who also created the graphic design and layout for this collection
I couldn’t be more excited about this book and I’m hoping all of you in the Chicago-land area can come by Chicago Zinefest to get your copy!
Saturday, March 10th
1104 S. Wabash
8th floor @ table 62
I’ll be signing every copy and including individual sketches on the inside back covers. Of course, I’ll also have Gary 1-2, Simon mini-comics, and another special item that is only available at Zinefest. For those of you who can’t make it, I have also added the Simon Collection to my store for purchase:
Thanks everyone for the support and hope to see many of you this weekend!
Happy New Years to everyone!
I finally have internet in my home again. I’m very sorry for the delay in posting. But I do have good news…
The long awaited cube prints are finally available! Here is what they look like:
All prints are 8×10 on thick bright white paper. Each design (other than 6) was created with marker on paper, sans ruler. For design 6, however, I did use Photoshop to enhance the hand-drawn original. Some of you may recognize this design from the T-shirts also available on my website. Colors seem to have replicated nicely and I’m really excited to see these on some walls! Let me know what you think, as I’d love to offer more designs in the future!
For my next post, I’ll proclaim my adoration for the great Katsuhiro Otomo and talk about style and content influences.
A comic I did a few years back is now available for digital download. It’s called Mighty…
The book is based on the Biblical account of King David and his Mighty Men. It explores the psychological and spiritual struggles of David’s warriors as they vanquish countless foes in the name of their Lord. Mighty is full of epic battles, while questioning the ability of faith to overcome doubt and man’s struggle with his call.
The book is about 70 pages, and consumed all my spare time for a couple years. It’s available for only $1.99 and I’d love for you to read it.
Wish me luck as I prepare for Stumptown Comics Fest in Portland this weekend! I’ll have an update for you when I get back!
